First Class playing experience combined with 15 years mentoring & developing players in Premier Cricket & SACA Pathway Programs
Philosophy: Delivering a program with a centerpiece of building strong relationships with players to gain respect and trust, in an environment encouraging improvement and player enjoyment. Combining these pillars has been the foundation of success from individuals & the collective program.
Ben Cameron was one of my coaches from 16 to 22 years old, always challenging me to improve & never be satisfied with my performances. His influence assisted my development to represent South Australia .
Former Emerging Redback
Ben’s Camerons influence as a mentor & coach has played a major part in the development of my game. I’ve got no doubt his guidance has, and continues to, assist me in reaching my potential as a player.
Ben Cameron has been a fantastic addition to Sturt since taking on the senior coaching role prior to the 2017/18 season. His energy and cricket knowledge has really engaged our young group. I find him easy to have honest conversations with and believe this is very important in building a strong player/coach relationship. His training structures allow me to focus on what I want to improve and ensure I improve aspects of my game every week. On game day Ben is extremely well organised combined with clear communication for individuals and the team whilst allowing players to work through challenges that confront them, whilst learning from positive experiences. My game has improved since Ben has been a coach in my cricket circle and I think his knowledge of the mental side of the game is a real asset to all players & teams.
I am looking forward to being involved in the South Australian Cricket Academy. It will be exciting to work with players who are outside the state squad system now but are willing to invest extra time in their cricket to reach a higher level. My focus in the program will be on the fast bowling area. All bowlers are unique and have various natural strengths that they bring to the table; different builds, heights, skills and bowling actions. The bowling program at the SA Cricket Academy will harness a player’s natural skill in order to execute consistent wicket taking weapons, whilst developing the weaknesses of the player to ensure all bowlers have various options to execute in all forms of the game. During a players time at the academy, we will also monitor bowling actions to prevent long term injury.
As physical performance manager I am looking forward to getting the most out of each athlete by preparing athletes for the physical demands of cricket and maximizing their abilities. I will be educating athletes on recovery, preparation, nutrition, and an individualized gym program. A large focus will be placed on the athletic development involving core strength, power, repeated sprint speed, endurance, all over body strength, shoulder and lower back integrity, and injury prevention/management.
My background involves competing on the international tennis circuit so I am well aware of the demands and work necessary to enhance athletic performance. My experience during the past 3 years in state cricket has developed a large knowledge base for what it takes to be a cricketer at their peak fitness.
